Mission Statement
The men and women of the Zachary Fire / Rescue Department are committed
to protecting the citizens of our community from the perils of fire, medical
emergencies and other emergencies through progressive training,
emergency response, prevention, education and community involvement.
History
The Zachary Fire / Rescue is located in Zachary, Louisiana north of Baton Rouge. It was established in 1931 with elected Fire Chief B.F. Hopkins and Assistant Fire Chief Charles Fonte. In the beginning, Zachary had one fire station located on Virginia Street and was an all volunteer department; we have come a long way since 1931. We are proudly serving the Zachary community with Fire Chief Boyce Smith Jr., Chief of Operations Mike Hopwood, 22 fulltime career firefighters, 30 volunteer members, 2 fire stations, and 16 fire apparatus. We keep our firefighters educated to better serve you with year-round training provided by LSU Fire and Emergency Training Institute as well as inter-departmental training with St. George Fire Department and West Feliciana Fire Department. We also provide daily and weekly training by our own officers.
